“Technology for Global Challenges – A Space for Local Activity” is a two-day event, which seeks to enhance the cross-sectoral cooperation and it emphasises the use of technologies for actions and solutions that could directly improve the quality of life of people and societies.

Workshop: Innovations and Technology in Human Rights Activities 

The event is addressed to representatives of organizations who are aware of the necessity of cross-sectoral cooperation in human rights activities and would like to discuss the new possibilities offered by technology in this field. The 4-hour session will consist a series of presentations by the invited experts and will be followed by a moderated panel discussion with a Q&A session.

The seminar “Technology for global challenges – the space of local activity” is organised as an accompanying event of the awarding gala of the 15. edition of the Polish Prize of Sérgio Vieira de Mello, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (2002-2003). The award is given to individuals and organizations, who cooperate with their activities to the peaceful coexistence of societies, religions and cultures. The international award is organized in cooperation with the Małopolska region, the Department of United Nations and Human Rights of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chapter of the Award.

The awarding gala will be held on 25 October at 04:30 PM.

 

 

Information about the experts:

 

Aleksandra Przegalińska

 

Aleksandra Przegalińska

PhD in philosophy of artificial intelligence, Assistant Professor at Kozminski University, currently Research Fellow at the Center for Collective Intelligence at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. Recent visiting scholar at The New School for Social Research/ Brown University in New York City (2014).  In 2011 Aleksandra worked as the Chairman of Media Regulation Working Party at the Council of European Union in Brussels. As a William J. Fulbright Scholar Aleksandra also majored in Sociology at The New School for Social Research in New York (2012), where she participated in research on identity in virtual reality, with particular emphasis on Second Life. Aleksandra’s current primary research interest include consequences of introducing artificial intelligence systems to people’s social and professional sphere as well as wearable technologies and human/bot interaction.

 

Andrea Maria Bertolazz

Sound knowledge in system administration, he has a long experience in IT as consultant of NGOs and non-profit organisations. In 2012 he founded Gnucoop Soc. Coop, in order to support non-profit organisations and to make development projects more effective through the use of free software and sustainable technological solutions. Since May 2018 he is president of Gnucoop.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Paolo Palmerini

Expert of ICT for social change, child rights and management of complex organizations. He joined Gnucoop in 2018. He was previously the Executive Director of CIAI, an Italian NGO world for Children in 13 countries. He served as Programme Specialist at UNESCO in the Maghreb cluster office of Rabat, Morocco leading the ICT and Media Development sector. He collaborated with other local and international non-profit organizations. We lived and worked in Europe, United States, West and North Africa, South and South-East Asia. He holds a university degree in Physics and a PhD in Computer Science.

 

 

 

 

Maria Pamuła

Maria Pamuła: is the current Assistant Protection Officer at the UN High Commissionaire for Refugees Representation for Poland. She engaged with the refugee and migrant issues in 2003 working for three years as a lawyer and a Member of the Board of the Halina Niec Legal Aid Centre. She has been serving with UNHCR since 2006 starting as Protection Assistant involved in monitoring and overseeing all aspects of protection, with regard to access, reception, detention and integration of refugees in Poland. Currently, engaged with the mixed migration movement issues, asylum trends and the compliance of the national regulation with EU and international law. Maria Pamula graduated from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow in law.

 

 

Bartłomiej Michałowski

Bartłomiej Michałowski: has been involved in the ICT market for 20 years. He deals with solutions for government administration, smart cities, defense, education, healthcare and industry 4.0. He worked in Poland and in EMEA region for Orange, CISCO, Hewlett-Packard, Statoil and the Warsaw Stock Exchange. He is also an expert in new technologies of the Sobieski Institute. March 21st 2018 he published a report “IoT and Artificial Intelligence in Poland”. He graduated from the Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Mechatronics, where he received a diploma in 1993. In 1995 he completed postgraduate studies in management, finance and marketing under the Copernic Program in Paris (MBA). In 2000 he received an industrial marketing diploma from INSEAD in Fontainebleau. In 2013 he completed the “Innovation for Economic Development (IFED)” program at the HARVARD Kennedy School of Government.

 

 

Zuzanna Warso

Zuzanna Warso: is a law graduate at the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw and graduate of English Philology at the University of Warsaw. Since 2011 she works at the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights. She coordinates the Foundation’s participation in European research projects on the ethics of new technologies and scientific progress and their impact on human rights. Currently she is involved in the European research project SIENNA. She also deals with women’s rights. She is the vice-chairwoman of the Human Rights Section at the Warsaw Bar Association and a member of the Women’s Team at the Polish Bar Council.

 

 

 

Seweryn Rudnicki

Seweryn Rudnicki: is a social scientist, researcher, and an associate professor at AGH University of Science and Technology. Design thinking trainer and enthusiast, co-founder of Hearts&Heads – a design thinking consultancy. Has 12 years of experience in research and training for organizations like PZU, Tesco, Motorola, VML, TNS Polska, Union Investment, Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, Krakow Technology Park and others. Has done extensive research on application of scientific knowledge in practice and facilitation of pro-innovation activities.
