We would like you invite to the closing discussion of the Villa Decius project “Głos Bliskiego Wschodu/Midle East Speaks”. Our guests Wassim Ibrahim, a Syrian born composer, and Havind Ibrahim, a young scientist from Kurdistan. They will be talking about their experiences with Poland and Krakow, how they ended up here, their feelings as the inhabitants, opportunities the city offers, and how they view its community. The discussion shall be moderated by dr. Katarzyna Przybysławska from Halina Nieć Legal Aid Centre.
Wassim Ibrahim – Syrian born composer and pedagogue, since 2013 living and composing in Krakow. In Krakow he also continues his scientific career, that he commenced in Damascus, being a Ph.D. student and a lecturer in the Academy of Music in Krakow. Ibrahim is also a founder and a curator of the amateur Choir – Chór w Kontakcie, for all music lovers, irrespective of their age, origin (the choir sings in different languages) and talent. Ibrahim also conducts a choir and children’s orchestra in Janusz Korczak Waldorf’s Education Primary School in Krakow.
Havind Bayar Ibrahim – born in Dakuk, Iraqi Kurdistan. In Krakow for four years. Ph.D. student of Political Studies within Jagiellonian University and Young Diplomats Academy in Warsaw. Former USA student. Representative of Kurdistan Students Union in Poland.
Katarzyna Przybysławska – jurisprudence Ph.D., public international law, specialised in human rights and refugee law. Cofounder and president of the Halina Nieć Legal Aid Centre, non-profit organization in the field of human, refugee and stateless persons rights protection. Coworker of the Centre for the International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, Jagiellonian University, expert of the Board of Experts for the Migrants at the Ombudsman Office, member of the Advisory Committee of the European Network for the Stateless Persons.
