Challenges of Freedom, International Conference

8-9 October 2009, Villa Decius – The Challenges of Freedom International Conference will be an attempt to reflect on and discuss questions connected with freedom in its public and private dimensions and from historical as well as forward-looking perspectives. The programme of the conference will combine intellectual contributions from internationally recognised personalities and European experts with debates and discussion sessions open to representatives of the academic and cultural milieux, political organisations, NGOs, public administration, and media from Poland and abroad.

 

The inaugural lecture will be delivered by Prof. Paul L. Berman. Participants in the panel debates will include: Susan George, Marc Raboy, Guy Sorman, Paul Gillespie, Nina Witoszek, Unni Wikkan, Zdzisław Mach, Henryk Wujec and Michael Daxner. The panel debates, taking place on 8-9 October 2009 in Villa Decius’ beautiful interiors will be open to the public after email registration. The special event of the conference will be the announcement of laureates of the 6th edition of the Sergio Vieira de Mello Prize, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in the years 2002-2003.
