The seminar BRIDGES OF HOPE – Heritage of Dialogue in Kraków

Klub Jagielloński and the Institute of Intercultural Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków crodially invite to participate in the seminar BRIDGES OF HOPE – Heritage of Dialogue in Kraków. Thoughts of Jagiełło, Włodkowic, Decjusz and John Paul II as an Inspiration for Development.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR

Like never before there is a need to build bridges between people of different cultures, languages and religions. World Youth Day in Krakow showed that this is still possible to do today. The teachings of Saint John Paul II, who began and encouraged meetings of young people, are in many areas parallel with reflections of very important, but less well-known thinkers, such as Paweł Włodkowic or Ludwik Decjusz. Their universal message focuses on the importance of mutual understanding and growth through exchange of ideas, conversations and meetings with other people. This message goes beyond the boundaries of Kraków.

We would like to bring to light the Jagiellonian roots of openness, tolerance and intercultural dialogue, which are present in the heritage of Kraków, particularly since the reign of Władysław Jagiełło.

The point is not to focus on biographies, but rather traces and continuous inspiration which can be drawn from the achievements of these great thinkers. These are excellent examples of building bridges.

Today we want to be an inspiration for building BRIDGES OF HOPE. Bridges do not blur the boundaries, but allow contact, understanding and dialogue. It is thanks to these encounters with others that we truly get to know each other.

We would like to emphasize how the legacy of previous generations, multicultural traditions of communities living in Kraków, as well as the contemporary experience of interaction in the public space all lead to our personal development.
