Decius Ducats is the programme promoting the knowledge of economy, history and numismatics addressed to primary school, grade 4-6 pupils and teachers from the Małopolska Province. Among its main themes are selected issues relating to history of money from the ancient to contemporary times; from the value and role of money through monetary policy to numismatics. Some of the classes are devoted to the presentation of Nicolaus Copernicus and Justus Decius, the authors of the leading Renaissance treatises on economy in dispute on the monetary policy of the time.

A ceremony of the Literary Salon with the participation of the reporter, Angelica Kuźniak, inaugurated the third season of the SAGA creativity workshops for senior citizens on 16 September 2013. The programme is aimed at education, integration and enhanced activism of senior citizens through creative writing workshops, discussion groups, work on text, literary games in the selected workshop groups, focused on prose or the media.

The meeting of the of the Panel of Judges of the Polish Prize of Sérgio Vieira de Mell took place on 12 September 2013 announcing the winners of this year’s, 10th edition of the event. The Panel of Judges included the representatives of the President of Poland, Ambassador of the Republic of Brazil, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden in Poland, UN High Commissioner on Refugees, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Institute of National Remembrance, Poland’s Spokesman for the Civil Rights, Consulates and Foundations supporting the Association in the area of human rights.

The Villa Decius Association is a partner of an international project in the field of the promotion of translation and literature – Transstar, which was initiated in January 2013 by the University of Tübingen and nine other European institutions. Its aim is to raise the profile of the less spoken European languages and cultures that the public is less aware of. For three consecutive years, universities and cultural institutions in Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia and Ukraine will carry out training for literary translators and culture animators, aimed at creating a network of institutions that will help individuals develop their transcultural competences. Please join us at the international debate entitled „The Power of the Powerless Revisited” which will take place on 18 September 2013, at 2:00pm in Villa Decius. The event is part of the FORUM 2000 Conference held in Prague on 15-17 September 2013. The debate in Villa Decius will be attended by Surenda Munshi, a distinguished sociologist from the Indian Institute of Management of Calcutta; Tamara Sujú, defender of human rights, President of New National Awareness Foundation from Venezuela; Danuta Glondys, Director of Villa Decius Association and Jan Piekło – journalist, Director of the Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation Foundation – PAUCI.

The Villa Decius Association invites you all to the Literary Salon, which will take place on 16 September at 5:00pm. Our special guest will be Angelika Kuźniak, the author of the book entitled “Papusza”, dedicated to Bronislawa Wajs – the famous gypsy poet, discovered by George Ficowski and greatly admired by Julian Tuwim. The Literary Salon will launch the third edition of SAGA, creativity workshops for senior citizens. Admission is free.

The new eighth, extraordinary crime and reportage issue of the „Radar” literary magazine, published by the Villa Decius Association is coming soon. Its premiere will take place in Lviv at the 20th Publishers Forum (10-15 September). The new issue will include, among others, a text by Sofija Andrukhovich entitled „Felix Austria” about the search for the spirit of Galicia in the scenery of Nowa Huta; Ziemowit Szczerk’s reportage „Holidays in the Apocalypse”; Vasil Machno’s story about „the land where seven languages were spoken, and chickens, though they could not fly, spoke at least three”.

The ceremony which ended the second edition of creativity workshops for senior citizens, SAGA, took place on 9 September. The participants were awarded diplomas and literary souvenirs. The event was accompanied by a special literary salon, presented by the participants of the workshops, Urszula Jaksik and Andrzej Lelito. The winners of the literary competition “Saga – everyday heroes” were also announced at the meeting.
