Europe of Youth – Europe of Peace

The International Youth Meeting: Europe of Youth – Europe of Peace, organized on the one hundredth anniversary of the outbreak of WWI will provide a meeting opportunity for a group of young people and allow for establishing a platform of historical knowledge and reflection; it will also become an impulse for searching for an answer to the question on how young Europeans can jointly shape the future of Europe without using violence and without making sacrifices.

In 2014, the world is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of WWI. WWI was the greatest armed conflict on the European continent since the Napoleonic Wars, ended with establishment of numerous states in Central and Southern Europe. The necessity of war and making sacrifices was explained to many soldiers by the welfare of future generations. 100 years have passed since this international tragedy and questions are asked whether the welfare of future generations has to come at the cost of life and tragic death of others.

The international and interdisciplinary character of the meeting will be conducive to the conduct of a constructive dialogue, thereby creating a surface for exchange of views and experiences of young Europeans. The meeting will be organized in the form of educational and promotional study visits; it is addressed to students from the European states that participated in the fighting on the Eastern front during WWI. Activities will be targeted at students from the following countries: Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Hungary and Italy. Students from Poland representing the Jagiellonian University and the Pedagogical University of Cracow will also attend the meeting, along with scouts from the Gorlice poviat. In total, approx. 120 people will take part in the meeting.

Date of event: July 31 – August 10.

The organizer of the event is the Małopolska Province Governor, Villa Decius Association, Jagiellonian University, Pedagogical University and communes of the Gorlice poviat.
